Building an online archive for care migration

By developing the digital archive WHO CARED, we want to document the stories of women who left their homes at a young age to work in the care sector. We want to pay tribute to their lives, which have received little attention to date, and preserve them for future generations.

To kick things off, we are focusing on the story of nurses from the southern Indian state of Kerala:

Malayali?

Deine Mutter bzw.

In the long term, the project aims to create space for many more stories related to care migration. Its goal is to document these migration experiences and make them accessible – to the nurses who once migrated, their descendants, those involved in current recruitment practices in the care sector, as well as to the public and academia.

Given the advanced age of many of these women, there is an urgent need to record their experiences without delay.

Thanks to dedicated volunteer work and federal support, the online archive WHO CARED is currently under construction. However, to cover the required co-funding and keep the project going, we rely on additional contributions. For this purpose, we have set up a donation page on betterplace.org.
